Radical leftist protests are sweeping Tel Aviv, Israel – but Glenn noticed and odd pattern. They sound disturbingly like communist propaganda! “ Increase personal tax brackets for top earners, enshrine the right to housing into the law, introduce rent controls, boost mortgage relief, stop further privatization of things such as health facilities, provide free education for all from the age of three months. And raise the minimum wage to 50% of the average pay,” Stu read. What did Glenn think? He sarcastically said there’s no need to look and see if there is any financing or groups organizing these protests, or even a need to look and see if radical Islamists are participating or encouraging the protests. “It couldn’t be!– why even look? Why even look to see if there’s any leftist global financing involved there in Tel Aviv? And you know what, Stu? Whatever you do, do not look to see if there’s any kind of Islamist movement that is joining them,” he said.

Why do we “afflict” ourselves for 25 hours when we have returned to the Jewish state and built a wonderful country from the ground up?

Each year in recent times, as the ninth of Av approaches, we ask the question: How can we sit and mourn for Jerusalem, when the city has been so magnificently rebuilt? Why do we “afflict” ourselves for 25 hours when we have returned to the Jewish state in amazing numbers, and built a wonderful country from the ground up, with a superb army, world-class universities and a brilliant economy? Has Tisha Be’av become passé? These thoughts were reinforced last week when my wife and I took a Segway tour on the newly-refurbished Armon HaNatziv promenade. Led by our expert guide Chaim, we beheld a magnificent view of Jerusalem rebuilt, with its many sparkling new neighborhoods against the ancient villages and walls of the Old City. From that elevated view, one can truly appreciate how unique our Jewish capital is, and how it so brilliantly melds the past and the future.

Yet despite all this, I will still recite lamentations on Tisha Be’av; I will still add the somber Nachem plea for consolation to my prayers. Not only in remembrance for the spiritually-elevated world, centered around the Temple, which vanished when Jerusalem was destroyed (twice); but also for the shuddering thought of a third destruction, God forbid. For only when we force ourselves to consider what the effect would be of another Holocaust – this time on Israeli soil – can we begin to relate to the destruction that was visited here.

And so, with apologies to the History Channel’s “Life After People” series, I ask you to gather up your courage and consider A World Without Israel.

THIS SCENARIO – may it never come to pass - occurs sometime in the future.

The combined forces of Syria, Hezbo- Lebanon, a radicalized Egypt and an only semi-reluctant Jordan – spurred on by the Palestinian masses, now fully under the sway of Hamas – have flooded Israel with millions of combatants.

After bombarding the Jewish state with tens of thousands of missiles, causing hundreds of thousands of Jews to flee (no easy task after a shell-shocked Ben- Gurion airport is closed), Arab mobs have crossed our borders, overwhelming the courageous but hopelessly outnumbered soldiers of the IDF. The smell of victory finally in their noses, the Arabs reject all international calls for a cease-fire and unleash a brutal assault on the civilian population. The government considers using nuclear weapons, but the enemy is already within the gates, and the Opposition effectively blocks the proposal.

Independent Israel, as we knew it, has ceased to exist.

Three months after Israel: The last pockets of Jewish resistance have been brutally suppressed. Thousands of Jewish fighters, summarily executed for carrying arms, are slaughtered in the public squares. MKs – present and former, including Arab MK’s – having been charged as war criminals and accomplices to genocide, are also killed.

(Pointedly, the first to be shot are members of the Israeli Left, who zealously defended the Palestinian cause .) The haredi population is not spared; they, too, are slaughtered, despite their protests of being apolitical. Only a handful of Neturei Karta are left unharmed – a reward for their strident anti-Zionism through the years.

Six months after Israel: Hundreds of thousands of Israelis, seeking asylum, find they have no place to run. The Arab League has ordained an oil embargo against any country opening its borders to survivors. The EU has declared a moratorium on all immigration, wishing to “carefully study the situation before inflaming any further passions.”

Even those holding American passports are barred from entering the United States if they have resided in a war zone during the past year, in the interest of “national security.”

Meanwhile, those Jewish homes still intact are given to Palestinians, while their former residents are placed in refugee camps, now called “holding centers for foreign workers.” Starvation and sickness are rampant, as the UN finally decides it will no longer be administering the camps.

One year after Israel: Judaism is no longer acknowledged as an official religion in the new Palestine. Jewish practice among the skeleton Jewish population is permitted only in private, and even then is subject to constant harassment.

The last remaining synagogues – branded as “centers of terrorism and racism” - are consecrated as mosques, in line with Islamic law forbidding any non-Islamic places of worship on “holy ground.” While most churches are similarly converted, several of the more famous ones are designated as “museums” and “cultural attractions” so as to continue to attract Christian tourists.

The most dramatic moment comes when the Western Wall is dismantled, stone by stone, as the foundation is laid for the Grand Al-Buraq Mosque.

Western criticism is muted.

10 years after Israel: Diaspora Jewry, devastated by the loss of Israel, is in a state of rapid decline. In-fighting within the shrinking communities pits those whose love for Israel still lingers against those who blame Israel’s founders for having established the state in the first place and bringing such destruction upon the Jews. The American administration, anxious to maintain ties with the ascendant Islamic world, categorizes Zionist organizations as “harmful to American interests,” and forbids their funding and publications. Jewish schools continue to operate, but their curriculum is subject to constant inspection and are carefully monitored for signs of “subversive” activity.

50 years after Israel: As world economies experience a deep decline, democracies declare a state of emergency.

Jews are scape-goated and subjected to increased discrimination.

Pogroms break out in several countries as Jews are accused of parasitism and disloyalty. All Jews aged 18-25 are drafted, with no exemptions or special privileges.

For their own protection, Jews are moved into closed-off sections of major cities, and their contact with the indigenous population is limited. The lack of Jewish influence and the absence of a homeland leave Jews exposed to every form of abuse.

100 years after Israel: Intermarriage among Jews now exceeds 80%. The combination of high costs and low demand results in only a fraction of Jewish children receiving a Jewish education.

In the Middle East, internecine fighting between Arab nations over the past three decades has left the region in shambles. Palestine, with no natural resources and no wealthy donors, has become bankrupt and largely desolate.

The once-flourishing agriculture is but a memory, as fertile fields revert to wilderness.

In secluded places across the world, small groups of Jews gather to discuss the idea of returning to Zion and reestablishing a land of their own, a place where they may again walk proudly with their God. They decide to meet in a special assembly, which they will call “the Herzl Congress.”

Can it happen? I think not and I pray not. But I certainly will not take this great country, or Jerusalem of Gold, for granted.

(Pittsburgh Tribune) QENA, Egypt — When Ayman Anwar Mitri heard his apartment building had burned, the high school administrator rushed to see the damage.He found a crowd of bearded men waiting.

They “beat me all over” with charred furniture, recalls Mitri, 47, one of the Coptic Christians who make up 10 to 15 percent of Egypt’s 83 million people.

He says a rival falsely accused him of renting the apartment to two Muslim prostitutes and of having sex with them — a social and sectarian taboo that inflamed local Islamists.

“They were chanting, ‘There is no god but Allah.’ They wanted me to convert to Islam,” Mitri says. “… I was on my knees with my hands over my head. It felt like icicles falling on my body, and I prayed.”

An attacker slashed his back, an arm and a cheek with a box cutter before slicing off his right ear.

Afterward, a caller told police: “We took our Islamic justice; you can now take your civilian justice.”

He says he learned his attackers — who were never charged — were Salafis.

Four days later, he says, authorities forced him into a “reconciliation” meeting with the men and made him change his police statement to deny knowing the culprits.

Across Egypt, Salafis are accused of increased violence, mostly against Christians, since the Mubarak regime fell in February.

“A month ago, you wouldn’t even dare to walk around. We were expecting them to throw acid (on us),” says Hala Helmy Botros, 47, a Coptic activist and blogger here. “They were on fire, cutting off ears and making lots of threats.”

In one incident, Botros recounts, an unveiled girl was stabbed in one arm.

According to Botros, Salafis at one protest chanted, “Oh Christians, you pigs!” and “There is no god but Allah, and Christians are the enemy of Allah!”

מדינת ישראל נכבשת בהליכה

מכתב שהגיע במייל. אני מביא אותו כאן במלואו: צו המילואים שנחת בתיבת המכתבים שלי בישר על ארבעה שבועות מילואים בקו הגבול המצרי. לכאורה שינוי מרענן מהתעסוקות באזור יהודה ושומרון וגבול הרצועה, להם הורגל הגדוד בעשור האחרון, גבול של שלום, בסוף התעסוקה הבנתי שגבול השלום הזה מייצר בעיות קשות למדינה יותר מאשר גבולות העימות (לבנון וסוריה). חלק ממשימות הגדוד הייתה מניעת הסתננות גבול, לאחר שלושה שבועות תעסוקה "קלט" הגדוד 388 מסתננים(כמעט שווה ערך למספר הנוסעים במטוס ג'מבו), העובדה של אי עמידה במשימה גרמה למפקדי הגדוד תחושה קשה של כשלון. על תופעת הפליטים/המסתננים/מהגרי עבודה/פולשים (בחר הגדרה) נכתב רבות,אך שלושה שבועות של התעסקות אינטנסיבית עם התופעה תרם לי להבנת הבעיה ממקור ראשון ללא תיווך של אמצעי התקשורת. בנקודת זמן מסוימת כשראיתי את כמות המסתננים הרגשתי כמו חקלאי המנסה לעצור נחשול ארבה המגיע מהמדבר לארץ הנושבת באמצעים מגוחכים כהקשה על פח. את ההבנות (חלקם ידועות) שרכשתי ממראה עיניים ,תחקור המסתננים(ערבית, אנגלית ועברית...) הללו אעלה בשורות הבאות נחשול המסתננים מהלילה מובל ע"י חיילי הגדוד לנקודת האיסוף. עובדות א. המסתננים ברובם הם מאריתריאה, מדינה נוספת המיוצגת בצורה מרשימה היא סודן. עשרה מסתננים, חלקם דוברי עברית הגיע מתורכיה (אולי נואשו מלחכות ל"מרמרה") מסתנן בודד הגיע מחוף השנהב. ב. הסיבה היחידה לבואם היא הרצון לשיפור ברמת החיים ביחס לארצות המוצא שלהם. המשכורות בארץ,הטיפול הרפואי, והעובדה שהמדינה מתירה את העסקתם מושכים אותם לכאן. ג. המסתננים חלקם נוצרים וחלקם מוסלמים. ד. הסתננות נעשית ברוב המקרים כך: הגעה למצרים בטיסה או ברכב חבירה לקבלנים בדואים שמעבירים אותם לתוך סיני עד מרחק של 2 ק"מ מהגבול , ומשם מראים להם את הכיוון הכללי של הגבול באמצעות פרט נוף בולט או אנטנה ומתחילים לצעוד. הסיפורים על מסתננים שחצו מדבריות בצעידה רגלית הם לא יותר מבדיה. עלות המסע היא כ 2000$ למסתנן. ה. הנקודה הקריטית בהסתננות עבור המסתנן היא חציית עמדות הצבא המצרי וגדר הגבול, בנקודה זו הם עלולים להיפגע מיריות במידה והם מתגלים זאת רק אם החיילים המצריים ערניים ולא שוחדו קודם לכן , הגדוד ניתקל בסודני הרוג ואריתראים פצועים מירי. ו. ברגע שהמסתננים חודרים לשטחנו ומבינים שהם בארץ המובטחת השמחה על פניהם משתווה לשמחה של הוריי שעלו לארץ לפני 60 שנה. רובם אינו מנסה לברוח אלא ממתין לחיילי צה"ל שילקטו אותם. ז. המסתננים מודעים היטב ל"שרשרת החיול" הצפויה להם הכוללת המתנה של יום במתקן זמני במסגרת הגדוד (התנאים לא משהו ויצא לקבל תלונות ממסתננים למה הם לא מפונים בזמן ) ומשם ההעברה למתקן כליאה (קליטה?) בסהרונים ליד קציעות (תנאים משופרים) וכעבור כחודש יגעו הטיוליות לת"א, אשדוד וכו' ,המדינה תעניק להם מענק הסתגלות של כמה מאות שקלים וקדימה לשוק העבודה הישראלי. ח. לרוב המסתננים יש כבר תשתית בדמות קרובי משפחה וחברים, שיקלטו אותם בצורה קלה עם יציאתם ממתקן סהרונים. ט. למען הסר ספק , חיילי צה"ל אינם פוגעים במסתננים ,הם מעניקים להם מים, אוכל וטיפול רפואי, פינוי פצועים ( היו מסתננים שדיווחו שהם חולים מלריה) באמצעות מסוק , ומסיעים אותם לנקודות האיסוף. קבוצת סודנים ברגע ה"תפיסה". חיוכים של נשים אריתראיות בארץ המובטחת משפחות שלמות עושות את דרכם אין גבול גיל להסתננות מסתנן בן 60 (מודע להעלאת גיל הפרישה....) ילד כבן שנה עם הוריו שלב ב"שרשרת החיול" המסתננים נרשמים בטרם הם מועברים למתקן סהרונים בעוד כחודש אצלכם במרכז. מסקנות ושאילות של הלוחמים : א. איך מדינה מרשה מצב של טיילת בגבול שלה, מצב הנמשך שנים , המחשבה שבמקום 388 מסתננים היו 388 מחבלים גרמה לנו סיוטים. אם היחס של המדינה לכל מסתנן היה כאל מפגע דמוגראפי התופעה הייתה נעצרת. ב. מעבר לתמונות המעוררות סימפטיה , מדובר בתופעה מדאיגה ביותר המאיימת על קיומה של המדינה כמדינה יהודית. ג. מדוע המדינה משחררת את המסתננים לאחר כחודש, ולא כולאת אותם עד לגרושם כמו שנהוג ברוב המדינות הנאורות בעולם? ד. מדוע המדינה לא מגיעה להסכם החזרתם למצרים מדינה ממנה הם חדרו לשטחנו? במידה והמצרים אינם מסכימים , יש לפגוע באותם בדואים המבריחים את המסתננים גם אם הדבר כרוך בפגיעה בריבונות המצרית. ה. הממשלה אינה מגדירה לצבא יעד של 0 חדירות (כמו שמוגדר בגבולות האחרים של המדינה) במידה והיה מוגדר יעד כזה הצבא היה משקיע הרבה יותר אמצעים בבלימת המסתננים על גדר, במצב הנוכחי הכוחות עושים את מירב המאמצים, אך הסד"כ ואמצעים דלים. ו. בסמוך לגבול התאמנו כל העת מיטב מטוסי חיל האוויר לקראת מלחמה עתידית ורחוקה בשעה שהמדינה זולגת לנו מבין האצבעות ע"י פעולה פשוטה של צעידה ומעבר הגבול. ז. הישראלים שמעסיקים את הזרים גורמים נזק אדיר למאמץ לבלום את התופעה הרי במידה ולא הייתה מחכה להם תעסוקה, הם לא היו מגיעים. ח. למדינת ישראל יש קשרים דיפלומטים עם אריתריאה האם לא ניתן להגיע להסכם החזרה מסודר? ט. התחושה שלי שכל מסתנן פוגע בכל השכבות בחברה הישראלית ללא השכלה שפעם יכלו לחיות בכבוד מעבודת כפיים קשה אך כיום יש מסתננים שיהיו מוכנים לעשות את אותה עבודה רק זול יותר. י. מדינה שגעשה מכמה תיירים שעשו פרובוקציה בנתב"ג, מקבלת בשיווין נפש עשרות אלפי מסתננים, שמימשו את זכות השיבה בלי להמתין להסכם.(תנסו לחשוב מה היה קורה לראש ממשלה שהיה מסכים לקלוט לשטח הקו הירוק 50,000 לא יהודיים) יא. מדינה שלמה ממתינה להשלמת הגדר בגבול שתסיים את התופעה, במקום לנקוט במכלול צעדים. גדר הגבול החדשה. לסכום כמו בהרבה נושאים בחיינו במדינה הזו, אין מדיניות ברורה וקבלת החלטות אמיצה לטובת המדינה (אולי החשש מבג"ץ ,תקשורת או אומות העולם) . התוצאה של גמגום הנה גרועה לעיתים מהחלטה גרועה. באין מדיניות הגירה ברורה למדינה ונוצר מצב שמשפרי עבודה כופים את עצמם על המדינה. כחייל אין לי את הכלים לעמוד במשימה, שהוגדרה לי והיא מניעת חדירות גבול. עובדה זו עדיין נסבלת, אבל את התוצאות של אי העמידה במשימה זו ישלמו ילדיי שיחיו במדינה צפופה עם משאבים מוגבלים,עם אוריינטציה של עולם שלישי , והרוב היהודי בה מוטל בספק. מפקדי גדוד ההנדסה 5280 רשם - רס"ן יובל יצחק מסכים - סא"ל אמנון כהן
